ABOUT

John Goodbody Licensee Conference3.jpg

My Path: Client, Agencies, Client.

I’m a marketing expert who has led the successful activities of some fantastic global brands, both brand and agency-side.  I've always thrived working with companies who need to rediscover a bit of their marketing magic, or get their edge back, and I help them to find it.

My career has run in parallel to the waves of digital development so I built brands and my specialist skills in all the online channels (websites, e-commerce, display advertising, search/ PPC, Apps, social media etc).  These channels are all complementary with the offline world so my recent roles, in more senior positions, went to the full marketing remit. Proposition, positioning, retail, service experience and offline communications too (TV, OOH, radio etc). I really am channel agnostic. It's always about the right tools for growing a business or achieving a desired outcome.

Having worked in some of the best creative and media buying agencies in the world I bring a wealth of skills and experience in agency management. I'm a brave, collaborative client and build strong partnerships. I'd be very surprised if I can't enhance a relationship and the value you get from an external agency.

My style:

I take a common sense, customer-first approach to my work and I like to see marketing terminology turned into natural business language. Combining this with my open and friendly nature has always served me well, allowing me to manage multiple customers and stakeholders from junior team members to senior level executives, both locally and globally. Always positive, I like to do it all with a smile.

If you've not met me before you might want to put a voice to my face and understand the way I present myself. The video to the right is a quick example. It's over a year old so add a few more wrinkles to my forehead. I'm talking about the Avis and Budget brands on an internal video for our front-line teams. Credit to Michael Bel Gil for filming and thanks to the guys at Collective London for throwing the questions at me.

Leadership:

I'll try to avoid writing anything that sounds too tossy or formulaic here. It's probably not unique but I honestly find taking a lead easier than management, one comes more naturally and the other I invest in to get right. They're interconnected, so what do I mean by that?

Well, I have strong strategic skills to set and share a vision and objectives. I take time to analyze and build my technical knowledge on a business, then use my sound creative judgment and problem-solving nature to build plans and solutions, often working with limited resources.

In order to deliver effectively to this plan, I've had to build, manage, and motivate a team or partners. And that's not always easy. We all have to discipline ourselves regularly to say 'thank you' and listen to others, and I'm no exception. However, I've found strategies to take time for this and it partners well with my open, honest, and collaborative style. Combine this with a challenge and desire to improve, it has always been critical to final success.

So, give me an environment where I can immerse myself in the business, work alongside (or hire) people who want to collaborate and do the right thing, and I will lead your brand to new heights.

So, is he a human? Does he have fun?

No. Well... Sometimes...

Credit to colleagues and my family for all the best times... I'll take credit for the bad gags.
